A visit to Garnwerd aan Zee can easily be combined with activities in and around the village. This makes it simple to put together a full day’s programme, perfect for a party, a gathering or a group outing.
Garnwerd itself is the perfect place for a guided tour of the historic village. As you stroll through the wierde village, the surroundings and their history come to life. The Reitdiep also offers plenty to do, such as a leisurely boat trip along the water.

In collaboration with JP Activities The programme can be expanded to include both indoor and outdoor activities. Examples of indoor activities include a pub quiz, bingo, *Wie is de Mol?* or an interactive game show. Outdoors, there are active options such as the Highland Games, *Expeditie Robinson*, bubble football or an escape hunt in the local area.

The day can end with a dinner at Garnwerd aan Zee and, if desired, an overnight stay on the water in one of the tiny boat houses.

Walking in the historic village Garnwerd

A stroll through the lovely village of Garnwerd is definitely worth it. Garnwerd is famous for Burgemeester Brouwerstraat. This is the narrowest street in the Netherlands that’s accessible to cars! In some places, the street is less than three metres wide. As well as the narrow street, the ‘De Meeuw’ windmill and the historic 13th-century church are also highlights of the village. So if you’re looking for a lovely day out in Garnwerd, a guided tour is definitely recommended.

Are you a real cycling enthusiast? Then a lovely cycle ride through the province of Groningen is a must. There are various cycle routes which run past Garnwerd. Why not stop by our waterside terrace along the way and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with a slice of cake?.

Whether you want to go on a long bike ride or just pop out for half an hour, there are loads of different cycle routes to choose from. One of our favourites is the Pisa Cycle Route in Groningen. This route starts in Winsum, after which you head towards the village of Garnwerd. You then cycle back to Winsum via Bedum. This cycle route takes about 2 hours and is the perfect distance for popping in for a well-deserved break at Garnwerd aan Zee.

The ideal group outing

During this varied boat trip, you’ll pass by Groningen’s highlights. The journey begins on the cosy tour boat, which has a bar. From the boat, you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the water. After a while, you’ll arrive at the charming village of Garnwerd.

This is where you’ll all disembark, and in two hours’ time you’ll be having dinner at Garnwerd aan Zee and, if you wish, going for a walk. After that, it’s back to Groningen city centre!
